Monsters on the loose

Snigs over at Snigs' Spot sent me an email a while back about this story. Now that one of the non-human monsters has been sentenced I thought it would be time to post about it.

How could Eric Dewayne "E" Boyd condone such evil acts? Why did he hide Lemaricus Davidson out? They were birds of a feather and one was no better than the other.

U.S. District Judge Tom Varlan did not have an answer, but for the families of the slain couple he did serve up the dish they sought — the toughest penalty allowed by federal law for Eric Dewayne “E” Boyd, whom a jury concluded earlier this year helped hide out slaying suspect Lemaricus Davidson.

“The underlying crimes were unquestionably horrific in nature … and will long be felt by the families of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom as well as this community,” Varlan said in slapping Boyd with an 18-year prison term. “Clearly, Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom touched many lives, especially young people.”

What Varlan did Wednesday was as bold as it is rare. Federal judges rarely impose maximum, consecutive sentencing.

He did so unapologetically, citing Boyd’s history as a lifelong criminal who in 1994 embarked on a violent robbery spree that included the attempted murder of a witness and, once behind bars, assaults on other inmates and threats to prison guards.

“Simply put, the defendant shows a lack of regard for the law,” Varlan said. “Even when the defendant has been incarcerated for breaking the law, he has failed to follow the law.”

Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, were carjacked from a Northwest Knoxville apartment complex in January 2007, held hostage inside a house on Chipman Street and then raped, beaten and tortured. Newsom was bound and shot execution style before his body was set afire. Christian was hog-tied and stuffed alive inside a trash can, where she slowly suffocated.     Source.
I wish all of these perps had to endure what the victims had to. I also believe anyone who has problems with the death penalty has no conscience, for the victims or the victim's family.

Most perps are beyond rehabilitation for these mindless acts where they have reduced their victims to objects. For this there can be no forgiveness.

I pray for the families and friends of the victims.
